16/5/10 Chaps Vs Copsewood Home 11.00am Kick off Bishop ullathorne
Chaps final league game of the season ended in a convincing win against a spirited Copsewood team who only fielded 10 players due to player abscence.
Chaps themselves were down to the bare 11 with Liam and Chris starting in the back 4.
Chaps were on the attack from the off with Alex j terriorising the defence with a run taking on 3 or 4 defenders before shooting at the keeper. A second chance to Alex also was pushed wide. A goal was coming though and he finally made the chance count bursting through and finishing well. The second goal came soon after after a fine spell of posseision with the ball being passed out from the back with jordan picking the final pass through to Alex to make it 2-0.
Half Time Chaps 2 - Copsewood 0
The second half saw Copsewood grab a goal back to make a game of it. This spurred the lads on and the team created numerous chances, Sai blasted over from 6 yards, Shaun burst down the left onlt to drag his shot, Jack Rooney went close, whilst Luke threatened from Corners. Sai eventually got the third drilling the ball into the top corner followed by Shaun who side footed home after good work from Alex. Alex duelycompleted his well deserved hat trick whilst Liam now playing up front almost lobbed the keeper who just about recovered his ground.
Credit to the Copsewood team who did not throw the towel in and battled to the end.

9/5/10 Chaps Vs Sphinx
Unbelievably the lads had to play less than 22 hrs after finishing the cup final. With Injuries taking their toll it was a bare 11 that kicked off and the lads looked very flat. The Spinx team were kicking downhill and playing nice approach football although their chances were restricted to long range. Chaps were playing Sean Mchugh up top along side George with the aim of getting the team to pass through Sphinx. The plan did not really come off though with both midfields canceling themselves out.
Half Time 0-0
The second half saw Chaps beginning to get on top with Alex now up front and Sean down the right. Jack and Shaun were winning headers in the midfield whilst Jordan Sai Alex and Luke were on top at the back. Sphinx centre back was off injured and the patched up defence were struggling to deal with Ash's monster kick, enabling Alex to race clear on a couple of occasions, the first was well saved by the keeper and the second time saw Alex pushed wide only to deliver a pin point cross to George who headed home in style to give chaps a deserved lead.
The Sphinx striker broke clear on a couple of occasions but knocked wide but other wise the attack was well marshalled.
With 5 minutes left a collision in the centre between George and a couple of Sphinx players saw George fall on his elbow - unfortunatley this resulted in George dislocating his elbow and the game had to be stopped while an ambulance was called. Get well soon mate. Hopefully common sense will prevail and the game will not need to be replayed!

8/5/10 Chaps Vs Athletic - Coventry Cup Final Bedworth Oval
Chaps lost the cup final today in a close encounter against a strong and physical Athletic team. Chaps went into the game on what was a massive pitch full of confidence after the Isle of Wight tournament win but were hit early on when Shabba pulled up with a muscle injury. This meant a re-shuffle with Liam coming on to replace him. Chaps were on top for the majority of the half with the best chance coming via a free kick that smashed against the bar from 25 yards. The game was still tight with both teams giving the ball away cheaply and struggling to deal with the pitch. The breakthrough came on the stroke of half time when George was harshly penalised when making a challenge in the Athletic half. From the free kick Athletic broke and found the pacy striker who held off a challenge from the hard working Sai to score a fantastic goal from what looked an impossible angle.
Half time Chaps 0 - Athletic 1
Chaps started off on the back foot with Athletic looking to add to their lead forcing the pace. However Luke and Alex were cleaning up well and the lads started to get a foothold in the game. Shaun in particular was getting space down the left side and Alex J found him well enabling Shaun to take on the defender and whip a shot in that the Athletic goalie could only push under his body in to the back of the net - cue jubilant scences in the Chaps end of the stand. However the team could not keep the pace up and Athletic hit back within a couple of minutes with the striker turning Alex H well in the box and finishing well across Ash. This knocked the stuffing out of Chaps and the last 20 minutes belonged to Athletic and their impressive stiker who was the main difference on the day finishing the game off with a neat lob over Ash. Shaun almost grabbed a last minute consolation after some fine work from Liam but was inches short of getting on the end of the cross.
No disgrace losing today with Athletic the better team on the day - well done to them. In the end Athletic seemed to have a bit more in the tank with the large amount of games played in the last couple of weeks catching up with the Chaps lads at the wrong time.
5/5/10 Home Vs Coundon Court - Finham Park KO 6.00pm
A very tired looking chaps performance with the Isle of Wight performance taking its toll. Of the starting 11 4 had to be started from their sick beds and of those Alex lasted 15 minutes and Shaun was taken off at half time. However credit to the lads who dug in the kept a clean sheet although Coundon had the better of the chances Sean almost pinched the points with a shot from out side the box which the coundon keeper did well to parry.

28/4/10 Away Chaps Vs Grove Farm Nuneaton KO 6.00pm
The team returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory over a hardworking Grove Farm team. The first goal took a while coming though with Grove Farm competing well and taking a safety first approach at the back to clear the ball upfield towards their dangerous striker. Alex and Luke were marshalling him well however, and Shaun and Jack started to get their foot on the ball and spread the play. Alex J playing through the middle was causing the Farms's defence all sorts of trouble with his running and was always a threat.
The deadlock was broken midway through the 1st half through Jack whose surging run through the Midfield was finished with a swerving shot from the edge of the box beat keeper. The second followed soon after with Shaun feeding Sai whose cross found Alex to provide a good finish.
Half time Chaps 2 Grove Farm 0
Sean Mchugh started in midfield with Chris coming on for Shaun. The half started with a 10 pass passing move resulting in a shot that went close. The pressure continued and it was rewarded with a Jack corner being headed home by an un marked Luke giving the keeper no chance.
Liam was playing well down the right, linking the play well and with Sean passing it quickly combined with Jacks running another goal looked likely.
However credit to Grove farm they hit back with a penalty after The striker got behing Alex who pulled him down. The penalty was well finished of the post to Ash's left giving him no chance.
Chaps responded with a penalty themselves after George was tackled from behind. George stepped up and finished well, again off the post. The final goal was scored by Jack with a Gary Lineker esq far post slide from some good work by Alex down the right wing. Jack had a couple of half chances for his hat trick but it was not to be. Credit to Grove Farm who competed to the end despite the scoreline.
This result should see the lads in good spirits for the Isle of Wight tour this weekend.
Full Time Chaps 5 - Grove Farm 0 MoM Jack - Great goals
24/4/10 Home Chaps Vs Athletic League Bishop Ulathorne KO 12.30pm
I missed the game (thanks to Des for the summary) but the lads apparently played very well in the first half in what was a dress rehersal for the cup final. Shabba was missing with illness so Liam stepped in. Alex gave the lads the lead and we were on top for the majority of the half. Ash made a fantastic save with Athletics only scoring opportunity of the half.
Half time Chaps 1 - Athletic 0
The second half saw Athletic come into the game and equalised from a penalty which most on the sidelines could not understand as there was no foul - over to the ref! The error was compounded when a foul in the box resulted in a free kick outside of the box. Athletics keeper had kept them in it with a fine save at 1-0 from Alex J.The game ended up being very physical with the lads giving as good as they got.
Not a bad result with the lads keeping Athletics dangerous striker at bay but knowing they will need to up their efforts in the final and hopefully Athletic have used up their luck today.

21/4/10 - Away Chaps Vs St Nicholas Colts League Ambleside Way KO 6pm
A midweek away game to the current champions and league leaders was a step to far for the lads tonight after Sunday's herorics. Chaps started brightly however and took the game to the opposition with Jack and Shabba in particular causing problems. Chaps created a number of decent chances, the best of which saw George poke the ball wide, after good wing play by Alex J saw him cut the ball back across goal. Alex also went close when put through on goal with the excellent St Nicks goalie reacting quickly to smoother the effort. Jack Rooney let fly with a couple of speculative 25 yard shots but unfortunatley were directed straight at the keeper.
St Nicks had barely been out of their half when a slip at the back handed them the lead. Luke's attempted clearance was skied on the edge of the box which Alex headed to A St Nicks player whose pass was missed by Sean Mchugh, enabling the striker to be clean through on goal and he finished neatly past Ash who had no chance.
This goal seemed to drain the lads confidence and the half finished with St Nicks on top athough the midfield battle was fierce throughout with some crunching tackles from both sides with a ref who was happy to let the game flow.
Half Time Chaps 0 - St Nicks 1
The second half saw St Nicks start quickly and put Chaps under pressure winning a number of throws down their right and forcing a number of corners. Jordan was putting his head on everything while Alex was dealing with the tpowerful St Nicks forward. Luke was still struggling with the ankle injury sustained on Sunday and was not his usual assured self. Jordan was replaced after 10 minutes by Liam who slotted in at left back. The pressure was mounting and St Nick's capatalised from a corner. Chaps dealt with the initial ball but were slow to push out leaving the striker clear on the left to pick his pass for a simple finish from the forward.
Sai who was struggling after a clash with a St Nicks defender was replaced by Chris and the team reverted to 4-3-3. For the last 15 minutes Chaps raised their game and Shaun and Jack wer clearly on top in midfield, but the final ball was often overplayed leaving Shabba and Alex frustrated. The game finished with a further injury for Alex H stretching the squad to its limit.
St Nicks almost got a 3rd at the death but a fantastic left handed save from Ash prevented this and it would have been harsh on the lads.
The team battled to the end but on the second half showing St Nicks deserved the points today with the team suffering due to injuries. St Nicks are the team to beat and the lads gave them a good test today.

18/4/10 – Away Chaps Vs Weddington Thistle Cup SF KO 12.30pm Blackberry Lane
Chaps found their top form today at the right time to dominate a very strong Weddington team and go through to the final of the Coventry cup. The Game started at a frantic pace with Chaps in the ascendancy with Jack, Sai, Shabba and George all playing neat one twos to leave the Weddington back line chasing shadows. Chaps had a couple of shots without testing the keeper but broke the deadlock after 15 minutes. Ash caught a corner and held back the kick to enable Alex J to get back into position. With the Thistle impressive number 2 caught up field the other centre back mis-judged the flight of the kick allowing Alex J to race clear a slot under the on rushing keeper to loud applause from the away end. Chaps then continued to press and were winning all the 50 – 50 challenges. A deserved second goal came just before half time with a fine cross from Sai evading the defender allowing Alex again to run in behind and produce a carbon copy finish of the first. Weddington went close near the break with the number 9 getting behind the back 4 on a couple of occasions but fortunately with no end product. Luke having won every header that came his way pulled up chasing back at the stroke of half time and had to hobble off which was a blow.
Half Time Chaps 2 – Weddington Thistle 0
The second half although nervous watching from the sidelines saw the lads control the play and limit Weddington to very few clear cut chances, the best of which flashed past the post with 10 minutes remaining giving the parents a nervous moment! Chaps pace up front always caused a problem with Alex, Shabba and George pulling the defence here there and everywhere. Liam came on for Luke at half time and hit a rasping drive which the goalie parried well and saw another shot hit just over the bar. At the back Sean Mchugh and Jordan playing as stand in centre back were winning tackles and braking up play and Alex never lost a ball. Shaun and Jack competed well in midfield with Jacks strong orward running a constant threat. Chris came on and was solid while Sai and Shabba provided endless running and quality delivery from out wide. Up front George and Alex closed down and were a never allowing Weddy the time to settle to build up any momentum. The final whistle saw the team elated and they can now look forward to their first Cup final. Well done lads you all deserve it. Andy - dry clean your suit! Chris / Chris / Sam - buy a suit

15/4/10 – Home Chaps Vs Leamington Hibs Leage KO 6.00pm Finham Park School
Playing on new home pitch the U13's cruised to a comfortable victory and gained some revenge for the Bedworth Nursing cup loss earlier in the season. With the wind and slope in their favour the lads were well on top and were rewarded with 3 first half goals, 2 for Alex J and 1 for Jack who had a really strong game from midfield. The 4th goal came early in the second half with Sai following up well after a fumble from the Hibs goalie. Unfortunately a rare defensive slip saw Hibs grab a consolation but the game was basically over at this stage with the conditions not helping and making flowing football impossible. Hibs finished the game down to 10 when the striker went of injured basically ending any threat they had as they had no subs to replace him. Chaps settled for the result at this stage and saw the game out well.
Full time Chaps 4 – Leamington Hibs 1 MoM Jack - Battled well up front
12/4/10 – Away Chaps Vs Coundon Court League KO 11.00am Coundon Court School
Chaps crashed to defeat with possible their worst performance of the season. Chaps were very slow out of the blocks and could not get into their usual rhythm on a tight long pitch. The midfield were struggling to assert themselves and the coundon defence were quick to snuff out any threat. As a result Chaps failed to create any clear cut chances despite winning numerous corners and dominating at the back.
They were made to pay in the second half when a rare slip by Luke failing to deal with a through ball saw the Coundon striker race clear and finish well. Ashley did well to save from a Coundon attack but worse was to come with a goal moments later from a throw into the box which was headed in from inside the 6 yard box despite Ash's despairing dive – another uncharacteristic goal conceded.
With 2 minutes remaining Jack Rooney curled one in the top right corner. With time running out Chaps finally woke up and started throwing players forward but it was to little to late and Coundon deserved their victory on the day.

8/4/10 – Home Chaps Vs Kenilworth Wardens 6.00pm Floyds Field
Chaps bounced back to winning ways with a solid victory over a battling Kenilworth Wardens team. With Alex and Sai missing due to the Easter holidays Jordan slotted into centre half with Liam filling in at left back. Chaps took the lead in the first half through good work from Alex Jane who scored from outside the box with curling finish. A second followed with Shaun floating a ball into Alex whose shot was parried giving George a tap in. The third was from a Chaps throw in controlled and crossed in by Shaun for Alex Jane to slot home.. Wardens battled well but with Jordan and Luke holding firm whilst Liam and Christian offered good support at full back. Kenilworth were denied a late consolation when the Warden's striker followed up after a fine initial save from Ash only to knock the ball wide from 2 yards out with the goal at his mercy to save the clean sheet.
Full time Chaps 3- Kenilworth Wardens 0 MoM Liam - battled well
1/4/10 – Away Chaps Vs Cov Jag
Cov Jag gained ground in the league today with a deserved 3 -1 win against the lads. Jag were fast out of the traps but were given a helping hand from the ref with a dubious penalty decision early on from which the striker made no mistake. Worse was to follow with a second penalty minutes later which was squandered giving the team a let off. Chaps rallied as the half progress and played there best football of the match in the last 10 minutes of the half without troubling the Jag defence.
Half time Jag 1 – Chaps 0
Jag came out fired up for the second half and the 2 big centre mids were winning all the challenges on a terrible pitch for flowing football. Chaps conceded a second having failed to clear there lines with 15 mins left. A third fell to the striker although Alex managed to respond late on to give the lads a conolation goal. Overall the team battled well but the team with the greater will to win got the points today.

28/3/10 – Home Chaps Vs Admirals Coventry Cup QF 11.00pm Eastern Green
An eagerly anticipated cup quarter-finals kicked off slightly late today as a result of Admirals forgetting to put their clocks forward. The lack of pre-match practice did not inhibit them in any way however as they rose to the challenge of playing red league opposition admirably (pardon the pun).
The Admirals team had a number of big lads who competed all over the pitch and behind them a goalkeeper who was quick of his line and agile when called to make a save. The first half was pretty uneventful although Shaun made some good darts from midfield setting Alex Jane clear whilst Jack Rooney and Sean Mchugh were putting in tackles to snuff out the Admiral threat. Liam started wide left and was linking up well with the midfield whilst Christian started at Right back after his stint in goal last week. With Jacks usual pinpoint delivery from corners not creating any chances Chaps struggled to get into the game.
The best chances of the half fell to Alex J who sprinted clear on a couple of occasions but failed to trouble the keeper firing over and wide.
Half Time Chaps 0 – Admirals 0
The second half saw chaps up the pace and were rewarded with George completing his first Hat trick of the season with 3 well taken goals. Credit to Admirals who battled to the end and never let their heads drop but the lads proved too srong for them on the day.

21/3/10 Home Chaps Vs Cov Sphinx Bishop Ullathorne 1.30pm KO
A game of no keepers today as both teams were missing there recognised goalie's with Chris taking over the keeping duties for Chaps. Chaps took the lead after good work from Alex down the right saw the ball deflected in by the Sphinx defender. An equalizer came after a strong run down the right from the Sphinx forward beat Luke for pace and with Christian covering the near post was well beaten with a shot across goal. Chaps rallied and responded with a goal from George finishing well in the area. The second half saw the lads content to defend and soak up everything Sphinx could throw at them. Sphinx had plenty of the ball but it is a credit to the team that Chris barely had a save to make and the team did not concede a single corner in the entire match.

The game was won via a single goal which started with Alex stretching to keep the ball from going out for a throw, With the Jag linesman not flagging the lads played to the whistle which resulted in Alex crossing with Shabba getting on the end of it to finish well. The Jag team complained but to no avail.

Goals from Shaun (2) Alex (2) and Shabba saw chaps progress into the Quaterfinals in a game that they dominated from start to finish, with Shaun squandering 3 chances to wrap up his hat-trick. 14/2/10 – Home Chaps Vs Grove Farm League Ko 12.30pm Bishop Ullathorne School
Chaps performed their own version of the St Valentines day massacre today with perhaps their most complete first half performance of the season.
They took the lead from the first corner of the match in the 2nd minute with Jack Rooney's pinpoint delivery picking out Luke at the far post to score unchallenged. From the Kick off Chaps were on the attack with Shaun and Jack finding plenty of space to pick out James and Liam out wide with George and Alex Jane beating defenders at will. A second goal was harshly ruled out for offside from Alex after 5 mins after the keeper fumbled but the pressure was relentless, Groove farm were conceding possession all over the pitch and were struggling to contain the white onslaught. However a further 2 goals from George and Shaun meant Chaps were 3-0 up inside 20 minutes and it really could have been 6 such was the dominance
Half time Chaps 3-0 Grove Farm
The second half saw Grove farm scoring to bring them back into the game with a break away goal from the striker evading Alex to finish well. For 5 minutes or so Grove Farm put Chaps under pressure however 2 goals from Alex, a goal from George and spectacular slice from Jordan finished the rout without further response to end the game convincing winners.

7/2/10- Away Chaps Vs Weddington Thistle. League
Chaps earned a well deserved point today against a strong Weddington team. The game was played predominantly in midfield with defences well on top with neither teams able to create any significant clear cut chances. The closest Weddington came to breaking the deadlock was from a corner which hit the top of the bar whilst George had Chaps best chance when put through and chose to shoot from 25 yards when perhaps there was time to take the ball on. However the chaps strikers had to deal with the strong thistle centre back who was doing a magnificent job of marshalling his defence and snubbing out the chaps attack.
The second half had very little in terms of chances with Chaps midfield taking a grip and dominating possession without being able to deliver a killer pass and in the end Weddington could have snatched it with a breakaway which the defence did well to recover.

However Chaps steeped up the pace and were rewarded with 2 quick goals in response. George did well to shield the ball and layoff to Shaun to finish well in the bottom corner. The second goal then came with Sai breaking into the box (from left back!!) to get on the end of a cross and finish well.

13/12/09 Away Chaps Vs Christ the King League K0 11.00am
Chaps crashed to a disappointing defeat today against Christ the king. It started brightly with Sabba playing down the left wing finishing well with just about the first attack of the game. Christ the king hit back with 2 goals in quick succession, the first with a counter attack from Chaps corner with the striker running clear past Ashley to finish well despite Sean's desperate attempt to save on the line. Worse was to follow with a goal from a free kick which the defence would have usually dealt with.
Half Time Chaps 1 - Christ the King 2
The second half saw chaps take the game to Kings with Alex Jane going closest with an effort cleared off the line. Chaps were punished at the death when committing players forward with another fine counter attack from the talented Kings midfielder who finished the game off well. Overall no complaints with the hosts taking there chances and chaps having a rare off day this season.

22/11/09 - Home Chaps Vs Cov Jag League Ko 1.00pm Bishop Ullathorne School
The team stormed to a 5-0 victory today in what was a fantastic performance by each and every player. Cov Jag were up for it having been knocked out of the cup by us only 2 weeks earlier. They played 5 in midfield with a lone striker and this almost paid off for them when they broke quickly from a Chaps corner. Sean and Jordan were caught napping allowing the striker to show them a clean pair of heals, however chaps were fortunate that with Ashley advancing the striker rolled it across him but wide of the post.
The first half was turning into a midfield battle with some good quality but little goal threat. The breakthrough was made when Shabba was caught late in the box which lead to a penalty which George made no mistake with.
A second goal came on the stroke of half time with Shaun feeding Alex J who made no mistake with the finish. The half ended with Alex H being taken off with a foot injury with Christian replacing him.
Half Time Chapelfield Colts 2 - Cov Jag 0
Chaps flew out of the blocks for the second half and were rewarded with 2 early goals. Alex J utilizing his pace to superb effect, to strip the Jag defence and score twice and in doing so putting a nice cushion between the teams. The Hat-trick goal seeing Alex put clear of the Jag back 4 and finish across the keeper.
Cov Jag are unaccustomed to being 4-0 down but to there credit they did not throw in the towel and if anything stepped up the play to try and score a consolation. However they found Ashley in top form. First he saved a penalty which was unfortunately conceded by Jordan who was having a solid game at right back. The Jag player beat him but Jordan slide in and appeared to take the ball first before catching the man. The ref gave the decision and Ashley reacted superbly to save the penalty from the Jag right winger and preserve his clean sheet. He then pulled off a one handed full length save to his right and a further two handed parry onto the bar that was hooked to safety by Jordan.
The score-line was completed by George who powered in a near post header into the top corner after some superb wing play from Alex J.

8/11/09 - Home Chaps Vs Cov Jag Cov Cup. Ko 1.00pm Bishop Ullathorne School
Chaps progressed through to the last 16 of the Coventry Cup today with a hard fought 3-1 victory over Coventry Jaguar.
With no match for 2 weeks you could have forgiven the team if they hard got off to a slow start but the opposite happened with the team straight onto the front foot with Alex's pace a threat from the off to the Jag left hand side. In spite of this promising start Jag took the league with there first real attack. Sean had done well to mop up in front of the back four but his wayward pass was intercepted by the Jag left winger who slotted the ball neatly across Ashley who had no chance.
Credit to the lads though as they came right back into the game, some neat work from Shabba out left ended with a cross that Alex J could not get a contact on with the goal at his mercy. Chaps were on top and the pressure told with George who was giving the jaguar back line a torrid time riffling a 20 yarder into the roof of the net beating the keeper who was at full stretch to keep it out.
Chaps went into the lead a couple of minutes later with Alex J not wanting to be outdone appearing to have overrun the ball, but he did not give up and regained possession to hit an almost identical shot to George which again flew over the keepers outstretched hands.
Jaguar attempted to get back into the game with a well worked snap shot with Ash pulling off a fantastic one handed save and stopping the ball on the line.
Half Time Chapelfield Colts 2 - Cov Jag 1
Jag came out all guns blazing in the second period but the chaps midfield and back line were fantastic. Alex and Luke won everything in the air with Conal who replaced Sai marshalling the winger well on the left and Chris sticking to his task on the right. In the midfield Shaun and Sean were hunting the ball down, frustrating the Jag midfield who could not get any decent service into their forwards. Alex H in particular was magnificent and the Jag forward never got free. Offensively Jack was a willing runner and was finding some space in front of the Jag back 4. Alex J looked to have been put clear on a couple of occasions but some very close offside decisions went in Jags favour. Liam who came on for Shabba was battling out on the right wing and George was a constant threat up front - his best game of the season to date.
The next goal was going to be crucial and Jag were beginning to throw caution to the wind and committing more men forward, winning a number of corners and gaining territory. With 10 minutes to go however, it was Chaps who got their third from a free kick on the half way line that was put into the box by Luke. It was not cleared, falling to Jack to blast home from 8 yards out giving the keeper no chance.
This wrapped things up and gives the team another chance at a cup run having made the last 16. Well done lads!

Lem Hibs 3 - Chaps 1 AET Bedworth Nursing Cup
The team learned a lesson that they need to kill teams off while on top today, when losing in extra time to crash out of the Nursing cup in the quarter final against the cup holders.
The first half saw Chaps in the ascendancy although they did survive an early scare when Lem Hibs missed a point blank header which went straight to Ashley. For Chaps, Alex and Luke were dominant at the back stifling Lemington Hibs and allowing the midfield to build a platform to play from. Shabba was breaking well down the left and George was holding the ball up and feeding his team mates well. Luke put Chaps in front from a goal from a free kick, conceded when the defender under pressure from George rolled the ball back towards the keeper who picked the ball up conceding an indirect free kick for a pass back. Luke thumped the ball and the keeper got his hands to it but could not prevent it going in. For the rest of the 1st half Chaps were on top, Alex was put clean through and after outpacing the back 4 looked odds on to score only to blast over. George had a good chance but hit the bar and Shabba fired over the bar. Half time Lem Hibs 0-1 Chaps
Lemington are holders of the cup and clearly had been fired up over half time to go out fighting. Chaps started to struggle to win any ball either up front or in midfield and the play become too predictable with long balls from the back and a general lack of composure all over the pitch. The team need to vary their approach play to stretch teams and utilise the pace effectively. Liam came on for Shabba but got little change from the right back while Alex Jane had a quiet game without ever seeing much of the ball. George was battling hard for scraps but was often out numbered.
Lem Hibs were playing all the football and in the final quarter were passing through the midfield at will and created a number of chances with Ashley coming to the rescue with some decent saves. Jordan was being tested down the right and being over ran at times. However a goal did not come whilst the team were showing some resilience and it looked like the lads would scrape a win. This was snatched away right at the death by the referee who gave a very harsh free kick against Sean Mchugh for obstruction when he fell on the ball under pressure from a Hibs player. This resulted in an indirect free kick in the 5th and final minute of stoppage time. The striker hit it well but the wall positioning was at fault as the ball found the bottom right corner, although no player touched the ball on its way to goal so it was really a double whammy from the official and should not have stood. The full time whistle was blown form the re-start. Full time Lem Hibs 1-1 Chaps
The goal lifted Hibs in extra time but to the lads credit the half started brightly with George going close with a shot skimming the post. Hibs made the breakthrough though from a cross from the by-line that the Chaps defence claimed had crossed the dead ball line but was missed by the linesman and the pass lead to a tap in. Chaps struggled to recover from this conceding a third in the second period after the 2 centre halves were left exposed.
A disappointing end and result against a decent team who had the best of the luck on the day, but the lads need to learn from their mistakes and come back stronger next match. Full time extra time Lem Hibs 3 - Chaps 1 MoM Luke Seery.
Rugby Town 1 - Chaps 1 League Away
Chaps fought for a well earned point this afternoon against a good Rugby Town team. The day did not start to well with Luke and Conal struggling with injuries on top of Alex and Sean's already known absence it left the team with only 10 fit players.
The first half started with Rugby on top, playing some neat incisive football and trying to utilise their pace down the right wing. They were struggling to create anything significant however and as the half wore on Chps midfield started to get on top with Shaun starting to spread the ball wide, Jack driving forward and Conal making some neat passes. Alex was being well marshalled down the right so was switched to the left where he started to get more joy.
A number of corners were won as the pressure built, one of which was cleared off the line by the full back.
The Chaps goal came midway through the half where a quick throw in over the top of the defence ran through to Alex who made no mistake firing it over the top of the Rugby keeper.
The first half continued with chaps slightly on top but in spite of the territory the commanding centre back prevented george, Shabba and Alex getting behind the back 3.
Half time Rugby 0 - 1 Chaps
The second half saw Liam come on for Conal with George moving back to midfield. Luke then had to come off after a couple of minutes as his illness got the better of him with Conal coming back on although clearly struggling himself, with Shaun dropping back to centre half alongside Chris.
These changes meant neither of the usual centre half's and 2 of the centre mids were missing or out of position - as a result the team looked dis-jointed and Rugby started to get more and more into the game.
Chris and Shaun were getting pulled out of the centre to cover the midfield who were struggling to track the runners. This pressure resulted in a goal with the defence only managing to half clear a ball which fell to the unmarked midfielder who slotted it past Ashley into the corner with a crisp finish.
Chaps responded with Shaun finding Alex who raced clear of the defence only to knock the ball inches wide of the post with the keeper beaten.
Luke was re-introduced to help shore up the defence and this helped although Rugby were still breaking down the right far too easily with Sai carrying a knock and struggling.
Chaps almost nicked the points when a shot from Alex was parried into Shabba's path but he pulled his shot wide from a tight angle with the goal at his mercy.
A fair result given the injuries and absent players .
Full time 1-1 - MOM Shaun. Strong in defence and midfield. Some great passes
Chaps 3 Christ The King 0 League Home Bishop Ullathorne KO 11.00am
Chaps bounced back to winning ways today with a hard fought victory over Christ the King. Kings started with intent and created the first chance of the game, The chaps defence was turned and Ashley's run from his goal to clear. This was charged down by the Kings striker but with the goal empty chaps were relieved to see the resulting shot go wide. Moments later a fine through ball found the Kings striker but Ashley came out quickly to rush the striker to slice the ball wide.
This let off woke the lads up and they started to asert themselves in midfield Jordan finding Alex to sprint clear down the right crossing for Liam to hit over. The team also started to gain territory winning numourous corners. Luke always looking a threat with a header narrowly wide and a volley brilliantly saved by the impressive keeper after taking a wicked deflection of the Kings centre back. From open play Shaun found Alex with a neat chipped pass with hitting it past the keeper only to find the centre back to clear off the line.
George also had a shot that went wide. A frustrating half with Chaps failing to make the most of the slope. Half time 0 - 0
Jordan made way for Chris and Shabba was introduced for Liam on the right with Alex moving onto the left wing to see if this would free him. This ploy worked immediatley with Shaun finding Alex with a ball over the top which Alex fired wide after cutting inside. This was a sighter as minutes later, Shaun again found Alex with a threaded pass with Alex making no mistake this time to give Chaps the lead. Alex was still struggling so was replaced by Liam.chaps really upped their game with Sean and Jack starting to assert themselves in midfield and Alex H and Luke strong at the back with Sai and Chris shutting out any threat from out wide.
Jack then made it 2-0 and all but secured the points, smashing a 30 yard thunderbolt dipping from left to right beating the keeper to his left. This took the fight out of Kings with chaps bossing the midfield. A third came when a probing cross from Shabba was handballed in the area, George converting the resulting penalty, blasting it high into the roof of the net.
Shaun nearly added a forth with a determined run ended up with him 1 on 1 from a tight angle with the keeper saving well at the near post.Alex Harbour headed narrowly over from another excellent Jack Rooney corner.
Moment of the season so far came when Chris dazzled the kings midfield, stepping out of the back and performing a number of step overs before finding Sean.
Another hard fought victory with every member of the team contributing to the result. Another clean sheet for Ashley, his third of the season and I do not remember the team conceding a corner today which show how on top the defence were against a team who have given us problems in the past.
MoM Jack for wondergoal / Shaun for impressive distribution throughout and creating the first goal.
Chaps 1 - St Nics 3. League Home Bishop Ullathorne KO 11.00am
Chaps fell to their 1st defeat of the season today, but can take plenty of positives from the performance against last years league champions.
Starting with Shaun at centre back covering for the injured Alex, the team was shuffled to accommodate with George moving into midfield and Shabba starting wide right.
St Nick's, having won the toss kicked off down the slope were quickly out of the starting blocks, putting the chaps team onto the back foot. The right sided forward was the main threat but St Nicks were passing the ball quickly to feet and stretching the back four. They forced Ashley into a decent save to his right when trying to lob him and a low shot that was smartly saved.
On the break Chaps were causing some problems with Alex's pace getting behind them down the left wing but the move ended in a shot that was always rising over the bar when a square ball to Shabba may have been the better option but overall chances were limited, as all too often the St Nick's midfield won the first ball with the chaps forwards and midfield slow to react.
As the half wore on it was apparent that Alex was struggling so was replaced by Conal with James moving up front. The chaps midfield and defence then stepped up to the plate working hard to deny St Nicks space while all players marked well from set pieces to deny any clear cut chances. Half Time 0 - 0
The second half saw Chaps up their game which was rewarded with a goal from Shabba. The St Nicks defence for once failed to deal with a ball over the top allowing James to race clear and under pressure from 2 defenders he was able to provide a neat finish.
St Nicks then responded and Chaps were under the cosh for a 10 minute period, leading to them to capitalise on some slack defending and respond with a goal of their own. Chaps had numerous opportunities to clear their lines but failed to take them. With the defence pulled out of position the ball was fed right where Ashley rushed out. The winger crossed evading Luke for the striker to have a simple tap in from a yard out. A second goal moments later came, another defensive lapse where again nobody took responsibility to clear the ball, the midfield were slow to track back the runners giving the St Nicks players over, one of whom eventually found time and space to place a neat side foot finish to Ashley's left.
Chaps heads did not drop and responded by pushing George back up front and forced a number of corners. The best move of the match for Chaps was unfortunately stopped for an injury where some neat midfield play had set Liam free only to be stopped in his tracks.
The final kick of the game saw St Nicks score a third although there was more than a hint of offside as the ball was fed forward. The St Nicks player played to the whistle and rounded Ashley to give the visitors a slightly flattering 3-1 win.
Chaps however should take the positives that for large parts of the match they were able to match their opponents for work rate and skill and that is a good reflection of the strength in depth bearing in mind that Alex H was injured and Alex J was clearly struggling with illness and not at his usual high standard. Full Time 1- 3

Chapelfield Colts 3 - Coventry Sphinx 1 (BNC) Home Bishop Ullathorne KO 12.30pm
Chapelfields came from 1 down to move into the 2nd round of the Bedworth Nursing cup after a pulsating game which was the first the team had played on their new home pitch at Bishop Ullathorne school. Played in hot conditions the team expected a tough game and that is exactly what they got.
Sphinx started the brighter of the teams and with their midfield pulling the stings were able to create the first chance of the game. The right winger giving Sai the slip to race through clear on goal with only Ash to beat. Fortunately for chaps he pulled his shot to the left of the goal and the defensive slip went unpunished. Sphinx continued to press and in trying to stop an attack Shaun conceded a foul to the right of the box. The resulting free kick was whipped in to the box with the chaps defence missing the opportunity to win the header and it fell to The unmarked Sphinx left winger to finish neatly from close range.
This seemed to kick-start chaps into life as from the kick off Chaps began to find their form, with Alex as always a willing outlet on the right hand side, his pace stretching the Sphinx back 4 every time he was on the ball. One fine run ended in a shot that the Sphinx goalkeeper did well to push onto the post when a goal looked likely. However, Alex was not to be denied and after another race against the Sphinx full back he used his strength to outmuscle the defender to get the equaliser.
The Chaps midfield were beginning to get the upper hand, contesting and winning most of the 50-50 balls. As a result Sphinx were struggling to clear their lines with the goal kicks from the ground in particular allowing Chaps to keep the play high up the pitch. The pressure this applied was rewarded on the stroke of half time with another fine run from Alex which ended in a cross which George failed to connect with but Liam following up from Left wing was there, to side foot it home from 10 yards out. Half Time 2-1
The second half was a more cagey affair, with both teams feeling the effect of the heat. The back four of Sai Alex, Luke and Jordan were all dealing with the neat Sphinx midfield interplay superbly, snuffing out any attacking threat. With no need to chase the game the team contested the ball in midfield and were looking to use Alex on the right and Shabba who had come on for the excellent Liam down the left. Jack had a chance from a free -kick that was fired straight at the keeper while Alex Harbor headed narrowly wide from another good corner from Jack. Sean and Shaun were winning tackles in the middle, getting vital interceptions in and hunting the sphinx players in packs to stop the threat and not allowing them to settle into their rhythm. As a result Ashley was rarely troubled in goal.
At the other end Chaps still were creating chances, George nearly getting onto the score sheet with a volley from a good cross from Alex, that just went over the bar.
The game was finely balanced and you always felt a third goal was needed and it came 5 minutes from the end after some superb hold-up play from George to play an inch perfect ball for Shabba to run onto. it looked like he had knocked it too wide but he struck it superbly into the top right hand corner of the goal to settle the match and take the team through to the next round.
This result should see the lads in good spirits for next weeks match against the reigning League Champions St Nicks. Full Time 3-1
MoM Alex Jane - Constant threat
Copsewood 1 Chapelfield Colts 6 (Match abandoned) League Away KO 6.00pm
The team played to their potential with a solid performance. After a slow start Chaps sprang to life with Alex braking down the right to cross for Shabba to provide a neat finish at the far post. This was followed by a second shortly after where Jack took a corner for Luke to head in at the far post. To Copsewood's credit they hit straight back with a goal from a free kick which Luke met but the team failed to compete for the second ball and it fell to the copsewood forward to hit a crisp shop to Ashley's left, the big keeper almost getting a hand to it.
The shock of conceding the first goal of the season drove the team on and they were rewarded with a goal, again from a cross from Jack which the Copsewood player headed into his own goal with Luke hovering at the far post. The first half ended with a fine run from Jack, taking on 4 copsewood players before curling the ball in from 20 yards. Half Time 1-4
The second half was slow to start with but this all changed when Liam who had replaced Shabba lobbed the ball over the keeper only to see the Copsewood defender handle the ball over the bar. The player was sent off for this and George made no mistake from the Penalty spot. The sixth came a couple of minutes later with Alex breaking down the right, beating the Copsewood team for speed and finishing across the keeper. Full Time 1-6 Match abandoned after 47Mins
Chaps 3 - Athletic 0
A trip to Sowe Common today to play Athletic , newcomers to the red league after winning the blue last season. The team started with both Shabba and Alex up front with the aim of utilising their pace. This worked almost instantly with the Chaps first attack of the game after 2 minutes. The midfield worked the ball to George whose pass beyond the defender fed Alex whose pace took him clear for a neat finish and his third goal in 2 games. This was soon followed up with a second from Sean Mchugh who fired a 20 yard shot against one post, the angle taking it in as it went across the goal. At this stage Chaps were dominant with Luke and Alex Harbor winning everything in the air, and Chris and Conal preventing any attacking threat from the wings. For the majority of the half Chaps were sat in Athletics half, with the slope of the pitch and the wind meaning Athletic could not get the ball out of their half with Shaun, Sean, George and Jack winning everything. Half Time 2-0
Sai came onto replace Conal For the 2nd half with the conditions now against us so the lads needed to be careful not to be on the back foot and allow the hardworking Athletic team into the game. This was helped by a goal from Jack Rooney from a free kick resulting in a cross come shot that curled into the goal from right to left. At 3-0 the lads were comfortable and changes were made with Jordan and Liam coming on for Chris and Shabba. To their credit Athletic kept battling with constant changes from the bench keeping the team fresh and were able to make the last 20 minutes a more even contest. As a result they had a well worked chance which caught the Chaps defence napping and ended with the Athletic striker pushing his shot narrowly wide when he had the goal at his mercy. For the most part however, the defence were well on top and with Shaun and Sean winning tackles in the middle, while Jack Rooney's driving forward supporting Liam and Alex up front, the team saw the game out and kept their 3rd clean sheet on the bounce.
MoM Christian - for his constant running supporting the midfield and tackling. Is growing into the role.
Chapelfield Colts 3 - Finham Park Rangers 0
The lads got the first win of the season under their belts this evening.
Played on a rock solid pitch at Westwood, Chaps started tentatively and were unable to play with the momentum they finished the previous match with. The starting line-up was changed to accommodate Alex J who made his first start for us. Alex's pace was causing Finham all sorts of problems down the right and he had a good chance saved by the keeper. The best chance of the first half however fell to Finham with their striker getting the wrong side of our defence and taking the ball past the on rushing Ashley. With an open goal to aim for he shot only for the back pedalling Luke to make a fine clearance and prevent a goal. Half Time 0-0 After some words at half time Chaps started to assert their game with the midfield and back 4 dominant, and Ashley a virtual spectator. The pressure had to count and the breakthrough was made by Alex who made the most of a mistake from a long throw-in by the otherwise excellent Finham keeper who fumbled it, allowing Alex to stab home from 6 yards. This settled the lads and a 2nd goal followed from a Jack Rooney corner which found Luke, whose late run at the far post was timed to perfection. The third came again from Alex who was put clean through on goal and slotted the ball to the right of the keeper who could only parry it into the back of the net to round of an excellent 2nd half performance. MoM - Conal great all round game in defence and midfield.
Kenilworth Warden 0 Chaps 0 League Away
First game of the season and only 11 players available due to injury and other commitments. Never the less this was a game that, particulary in the second half, we totally dominated with Ashley a spectator for most of the game. Only some outstanding goalkeeping from the Kenilworth keeper ensured that they kept a clean sheet. This was a good start and particulary from Jack Rooney who pushed up second half and made us looked more dangerous, however it was not to be. This will certainly give us something to build on.
